Saints Peter and Paul Before the Emperor Nero

9th century
Fresco
Church of St. John, Müstair, Switzerland

The context of this scene is the story of Peter's confuting the claims of Simon Magus. This scene and the rest of the story were covered with a new fresco in the 12th century. The white line down the right side of the photograph is the edge where the new fresco crumbled away to reveal the old one.
